Last Under 18 night of Summer

On Thursday we went to Dulwich Park for a lovely picnic in the sunshine.

I

There was lots of nice food and drink for us all to share.

We had a nice talk about our plans for the summer holidays.

We also played football and rounders.

Some of us chose to just chill out and enjoy the sunshine and surroundings!

Inclusive Football Project Final Session

Tuesday night saw our final inclusive football session at Elmgreen School.

We had a large turnout for the session and once again welcomed some new faces.

We decided to have a full size match between the young people from Rathbone and The Old Library as a nice way to bring this project to a close.

All the staff got involved although their fitness levels leave a lot to be desired! Poor fitness is no excuse for goal hanging!

The game was played at a fast pace with plenty of communicating, encouragement, quality passing and some great finishes.

We lost track of the score but that didn't matter as we were enjoying ourselves and challenging each other.

As per previous sessions, we ended with a penalty shoot out which was very tense and resulted in some great goals and some horrendous misses, much to everyone's amusement.

Some of us handled the pressure better than others!

We would like to thank The Wembley National Stadium Trust for their funding and support and London Youth.
In particular John Jones from London Youth for his continued support and for always being enthusiastic towards the project and for coming down to see us on a number of occasions. Thank you!

This particular project has been very successful in engaging with young people from all backgrounds and with a range of abilities.

We hope this will continue to be the case in the future and we will be building on the successes throughout the summer.

Youth Club Stall at Lambeth Country Show

This weekend we had a stall at the Lambeth Country Show.

We went with an old fashioned fairground games theme which was a great success and had lots of people taking part and lots of people enquiring about Rathbone.

There were lots of fun prizes to win such as sweets, balloons, bubbles and beach balls.

We carried on from last year with the hook a duck game, this year it was bigger and better than before.

We had lots of help from some young people from the youth club who were very enthusiastic and persistent in getting people over to the stall and parting with their money!

Everybody had fun and enjoyed being part of this great weekend erven if Sunday afternoon ended in a South London Monsoon!

Under 18s Bowling Night

Last night our under 18s group went bowling at Elephant and Castle. We had lots of fun and enjoyed the evening.

Everybody took part and we also had some food and drink there which was nice considering how hot it was!

We also spent time in the arcade area playing on some machines.

Next Thursday is our last under 18s night before we break up for the summer, we will be having a picnic in Dulwich Park and playing some games.

Inclusive Football Project Week 7

Tuesday night saw our 7th week of inclusive football between young people from Rathbone Youth Club and young people from the Old Library Centre.

There were a large number of young people who were involved in the session this week and once again we welcomed some new faces.

Some of us took up the opportunity to have some 1:1 coaching which we enjoyed.

After some coaching drills we split up into two teams of 9 and had a highly competitive match with plenty of tackles flying in and lots of silky skills being shown off!

Everybody communicated well and showed composure on the ball during the match and there were some very very good goals scored as well as a few shots from the staff that are probably still finding their way to Mars!

After the match which ended in a draw, we had a penalty shoot out which was very tense and had plenty of great finishes as well as some top quality saves.

Some of us cheered on the teams from the sidelines and gave out plenty of encouragement.

Next week is our final week before the summer break, this will see us compete in a match between all young people and there will be medals presented to all young people who have taken part in this very successful 8 week project.

Lambeth Country Show- 19th&20th July

We will once again be having a youth club stall at the Lambeth Country Show.

This year we have gone with an old fashioned fairground games theme. There will be a coconut shy, get a ball in the jar game and hook a duck.

We will be giving out information about the youth club and will have a display board on show.

We would like as many young people as possible volunteer just an hour of their time over the 2 days to be a presence on the stall and also to work alongside the staff to ensure the event goes as well as possible.

The country show is a very busy and popular event and we look forward to seeing as many young people, families and friends of Rathbone as possible.

Inclusive Football Project Week 6

Tuesday saw our 6th week of our inclusive football project.

We had a new member of the group join us this week.

We took part in some shooting and passing games with the smallest person in the group electing themselves to go in goal!

The weather wasn't great so some of us sheltered from the rain whilst some of us braved the downpour and played a match.

The match was very evenly balanced and there were some great movements taking place as well as plenty of communication and encouragement.

We have 2 weeks left of this project before we break up for the summer, this piece of work has brought 2 separate youth groups together and beyond learning and developing football skills, it has developed friendships and brought out some very important and positive personal characteristics of the young people.

We want it to be successful and meet the needs of all those who go on it, therefore your feedback adn ideas are invaluable in the planning and preparation of a trip this big.

The survey can be accessed at  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/6KY52ZJ

Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey.

Thursday Youth Club 3/07/2014

Tonight we made the most of the hottest day of the year and spent the session outside in the sunshine.

Some of us played basketball and football whilst some of the group relaxed and chatted.

We also took the time to practice our dance routine for an upcoming performance.

We ended the session with a BBQ and really enjoyed being together.
