Youth club at the old library

Tonight the youth club was buzzing with energy. There was loads to do and loads of young people getting involved.

We had loads of arts and crafts and the mirror and glass painting were really popular. We also had plenty of table tennis on the go, bringing out our competitive streak!

There was loads of cake baking happening too as the orders rolled in thick and fast for double chocolate chip cupcakes.

We definitely need to invest in another cake baking machine as demand maasively outweighed supply this evening. Nevertheless by the end of the night everyone had had a cake or two.

Young Lambeth Cooperative

Today we were visited by Zoe from the Young Lambeth Cooperative.
It is an organisation that was established to give young people in Lambeth a chance to have their say about what matters to them within their community.

We sat and learned about all the ways YLC helps young people have a voice in Lambeth.
YLC offer lots of opportunities to get involved in decision making about what issues affect young people in Lambeth. They also provide a platform for people to have their say on how money spent on youth and play services.
In order to hear about these opportunities young people need to sign up at www.younglambethcoop.co.uk.

Quite a few of our our young people signed up and are looking forward to get involved in various events and projects.

Making cakes - My Team

This week our under 18's group started their new project, the first stage is called My Team. This involved doing a a tran building session and we had lots of idea's but settled on making cakes.

We went down to the old library in west norwood to use their space and cake making machines. We then sat together and decorated our cakes.

The group then set up a a stall to sell the cakes to other members of the old library youth club.

The group loved making and decorating the cakes and the process brought them together as a team.

Setting up the Tuck Shop

This week we set up our own tuck shop. We went out and got lots of different things to sell.

The group had to decide on how much to sell the items for.

We chose a couple of people to take charge and serve the rest of the group.
This meant they had to work out costings and how much change to give back.
They also had to make the hot chocolates we were selling.

The group really enjoyed the new tuck shop, as it has lots of variety and the chance to have hot drinks is great on these cold nights.

The tuck shop should be a great tool for the young people to work on their money management and customer service skills.

The group did really well setting up and organising the tuck shop!
All profits will go towards new resources for the youth club.

Youth Club is back!

We started off the term with some great news that the kind people at Garfield and Weston foundation are going to be supporting the Rathbone youth club this year. This will enable us to carry on providing a much needed youth service for young people with learning disabilities across the borough of Lambeth.

So everyone at Rathbone youth club is saying a massing thankyou to Garfield and Weston.

Everyone was really happy to be back at club and catch up with all their friends. The aim of this week was to relax and socialise with each other .
We opened our own tuck shop to help our young people learn more about money management. The hope is that the tuck shop will self sustainable and naturally fund itself.

We had a table football competition.

We also made some get well cards for one of our members who isn't very well at the moment. We hope that she gets better soon because we all miss her at club!

Christmas Decorations

As well as our usual youth club activities this evening the group were getting into the Christmas spirit by making Christmas decorations.
Using our creativity and artistic flare we all made personalised decorations which will be used at our annual Christmas party.

We were all very pleased with our creations and we're now even more excited for Christmas than we were before!

Squidz club

Tonight the group attended The Squidz Club which is for young people with learning disabilities (aged 10-25 years), their families and friends. It features young DJs, VJs and artists in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

There was a disco room where everyone could let their hair down and have a dance.

A games room for people to chill out and meet new people, all while playing their favourite video games.

There were arts and crafts too...

There was also relaxation space and a chance for people to take some time out, sit and chat in a quiet space or even get a massage..

Everyone had an amazing time!

An evening at the Old Library

This evening the group spent the evening at The Old Library in West Norwood. The Old Library hosts a mainstream drop in youth club for young people in Lambeth.

It was a great opportunity for the two youth clubs to integrate and get to know each other.

There was a chance to take part in a variety of different activities like table tennis, video games, reading, nail painting and needle work.

Everyone had a good time and we are hoping to make this a regular session.

November's Bowling Tornament

We started of the new term by having a bowling tournament.

Competitors made their way to our local bowling alley, where they went head to head in the bowling battle to end all bowling battles!

Players limbered up before starting off the competition with some taking early leads whilst others tactically playing the slow game.

Thinking over strategies and game plans.

Competition was extremely fierce and everyone wanted to walk away with the trophy.

Regardless of who won everyone had a great time and enjoyed the competitiveness of the evening. The winner will be presented with the highly coveted trophy at our Christmas party in a few weeks.
